# South Jordan City Council, South Jordan received numerous accolades – South
Jordan named 2x “ #18 Best Place to Live” (Money), “Top 50 Best Places to Live”
[Retire magazine], Governor awards, & Third fastest growing city nationally
[Census Bureau] Reorganized South Jordan’s massive debt saving milions of
dollars, reorganized city budgeting practices, stopped a proposed annual 5%
property tax increase in perpetuity, created UT’s first multi-use Transit Oriented
Development (TOD) station which became model for other cities, (2012 -.2015).
# As a SJC Council Member, block Jordan School District’s proposed $0.5 Billion
building bond tax increase, led south valley Mayors in a revolt to split off from the
school district forcing massive reforms in the school district. Reforms included
the discovery of tens of millions of dollars hidden from taxpayers and the school
board by the business manager he ousted. During the process, successfully pushed
State Legislative leadership to pass statewide funding equalization.
# With six weeks to election, and polls showing 3 to 1 popular support for Prop 1,
organized opposition and exposed Trojan Horse tax increase which died election
day by almost 3-1 against, (2004).
# Oquirrh Park Fitness Center / Olympic Speed Skating Oval, exposed financial
wrongdoing resulting in State Audit exposing 60+ problems including financial
mismanagement, multiple serious violations of state law, and use municipal
personnel and assets to financially benefit executive director. Efforts resulted in
board resignations, public vote deposing rest of board, firing of executive director,
and personally outlined several law changes for UT Assoc of Service Districts
(UASD) which successfully passed Legislature (1996-97).
